KATRINA ELIZABETH BROWN:BA JD SSA TEP FTIA MTAX (GEEK)

Tax, Super and Property Enthusiast

Tax, Super and Property Enthusiast

Katrina Brown BA JD SSA TEP FTIA MTAX, the Practice Director of Nautilus Law Group, is the Senior Lawyer overseeing the Commercial, Estate Planning and Tax Division of the Firm.  Katrina holds a Bachelor of Arts (Political Science – University of Michigan), Juris Doctorate (Wayne Law School), Graduate Diploma in Law (Bond University) and a Masters of Tax specialising in Tax and Financial Planning (University of New South Wales)(Awarded with Distinction) and has undertaken courses in financial planning and aged care planning.

Katrina is an Accredited Specialist in Self Managed Superannuation Funds, Fellow with the Tax Institute of Australia and admitted to the Queensland, New South Wales and Commonwealth Courts as an unrestricted legal practitioner.

Katrina entered the legal industry in 1993, as a paralegal working in corporate law.  Between 1993 and 1995, Katrina transitioned into  general litigation.  Finally, in 1997, Katrina was admitted as an unrestricted lawyer and has since this time worked in the areas of Commercial Law and Litigation, Estate and Business Planning (including tax advisory), Estate Administration and Body Corporate Law.

She’s the “old bird GEEK” of Nautilus, and is not well adjusted as she actually loves reading tax and commercial legislation in her free time.  Notwithstanding, she is an avid advocate of protection for vulnerable persons, and volunteers and advises community organisations on special needs and vulnerability planning.  Katrina serves from time to time as a government adviser on a range of issues, including special needs planning and structuring.

Katrina assists Nautilus’ clients by:

  • advising and consultation on business planning, commercial agreements and tax planning (including the integration and use of Discretionary Trusts, Unit Trusts, Hybrid Trusts, Self Managed Superannuation Funds, Companies,  Partnerships, Joint Ventures);
  • designing and implementing estate planning, including estate administration (including Powers of Attorney, Guardianship, Wills, Testamentary Trusts, and Special Disability Trusts);
  • offering conflict resolution and mediation services on a range of conflicts (including family counselling, work place conflicts, and business restructures); and
  • constructing and drafting plans (including providing advice) for families effected by disability and elder law (including the integration of Centrelink planning, Special Disability Trusts, Superannuation Benefits, Family Trusts and general asset structuring).

Katrina is also an advocate for renewable energy and designed the new Nautilus Law Group’s offices, with the intent to create an environmentally responsible footprint.

Whilst she adores our clients, she equally adores the opportunity to mentor and guide the new legal professions on their journey of learning and discovery.  She sets the agendas and business plans for Nautilus, and is responsible for the overall well-being and happiness of our crew.   She is the first to admit – the hardest part of operating a law firm is balancing the needs of a diverse employee base.  However, as a parent of two  amazing young men, she is uniquely skilled to be the one that praises and pushes each of the team when they need it the most.

Should you wish to speak to Katrina, please feel free to give her a ring on (07) 5574 3560, or drop her an email at katrina@nautiluslaw.com.au.

Colin Long (“File Master” as he is affectionately referred to is in charge of filing and general administration tasks..  As one of the originating members of the crew, he is well known by our clients for his sense of humour and antics.

Colin “retired” to office administration after a career in construction and the trades.  In his role as “File Master”, he supports the solicitors and administration team  in a variety of ways, including:

Colin is a perfectionist and continually plans and implements improvements in Nautilus’ systems.  Colin is always ready to help, and is the greatest ally of the team during a rush project or emergency.  He also has qualifications in neck massage…a skill that does not go unnoticed in a law practice!
